UPDA Organises Diabetes Education Programme at RMLIMS and Community Awareness Session at Ujariyaon

Lucknow, October 9 : As part of UPDACON 2026, the Uttar Pradesh Diabetes Association (UPDA), in collaboration with Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr. RMLIMS), Lucknow, organised a Diabetes Education Programme on 9 October 2026 at the institute’s Academic Block Auditorium. The programme aimed to strengthen understanding of diabetes prevention, early detection, management and patient care among nursing students.
The event was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Narsingh Verma, Past President, UPDA; Dr. Nanak Saran, President-Elect, UPDA; and Dr. Abhishek Arun, Organising Secretary, UPDACON 2026.
The programme was held under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) C. M. Singh, Director, Dr. RMLIMS, with Prof. (Dr.) Rajan Bhatnagar, Dean; Prof. (Dr.) Vikram Singh, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS); and Prof. (Dr.) Subrat Chandra, Executive Registrar (ER), as Co-Patrons.
Prof. (Dr.) Shiv Kumar Mudgal, Principal, College of Nursing and Organising Chairman, welcomed the dignitaries. Prof. Nipin Kalal, Vice Principal, College of Nursing, served as Organising Co-Chairman, and Dr. Ranjana Verma, Associate Professor, College of Nursing, as Organising Co-Secretary. Prof. (Dr.) Narsingh Verma presented the programme overview.


Dr. Shivam Verma, Assistant Professor, Department of Physiology, Assistant Medical Superintendent and Organising Secretary, delivered an educational lecture titled “The Diabetes Blueprint: Essential Education for Nursing Students.” The session addressed essential aspects of diabetes management and the role of nursing professionals in patient education and care.
Community Diabetes Awareness Programme at UHTC Ujariyaon
Following the educational programme, a public awareness session was organised at the Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC), Ujariyaon, Dr. RMLIMS, Lucknow. The session involved Dr. Shivam Verma; Dr. Rashmi Kumari, UHTC In-charge and Professor (Junior Grade); Dr. Mili Sengar, Associate Professor; and Dr. Shikhar Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Dr. RMLIMS.
Community members were sensitised to diabetes risk factors, early warning signs, the importance of blood glucose screening, balanced nutrition, regular physical activity and lifestyle modification. The session also emphasised timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment and prevention of complications.
Through these educational and community outreach activities associated with UPDACON 2026, UPDA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening diabetes education among healthcare professionals and promoting public awareness across Uttar Pradesh.
