Lucknow, January 15: The Lok Gathbandhan Party today welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to examine the cases of UP police encounters during the last one year. The LGP said a detailed judicial scrutiny is certainly required as the BJP government in the name of improving law and order has resorted to large scale spree of fake encounters, which was encouraged by the political leadership of the state.
The spokesman of the party said here on Tuesday that the apex court has noted the PIL seeking CBI probe into matter required “serious consideration”. The spokesman said the national executive committee meeting of the LGP presided over by the former Secretary Government of India and national president Vijay Shankar Pandey last week had also expressed concern over these fake encounters and had demanded proper investigation. The committee had noted that BJP government had been making tall claims about improvement in law and order but the ground realities are quite different. The spokesman said now the apex court move to examine the issue has vindicated the LGP stand.
The spokesman that UP government’s claim in the apex court about killings of criminals as “lawful” is in fact distortion of fact, as the trigger-happy police have resorted to unlawful activities. The spokesman said the SIT investigation has proved that killing of Apple Executive Vivek Tiwari was a cold-blooded murder by the police. Pointing out that BJP leaders, including chief minister and other ministers, had in the past justified the illegal police action, the spokesman said that in view of seriousness of the issue the apex court should frame a guidelines in this connection. The spokesman said the UP police cannot be allowed to get away with it in the name of law and order. The spokesman said that fake encounters were being done to appease the political leadership in the state.
The spokesman said that wrapped as encounter the police which has got licence from the state government to kill criminals has also been settling personal scores. The spokesman said the LGP is not opposed to elimination of hardened criminals who have become menace in the society but the way UP police have been behaving is disturbing and dubious. Emphasizing that the law should take its course in controlling crimes, the spokesman said the cops could not be given free hand to randomly kill people. The LGP said the BJP’s slogan of “bullet for bullet” in controlling crime has been badly exposed as people are quite worried about the prevailing situation.
