New Delhi, February 06: The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) today strongly condemned the politicisation of bureaucracy and police in the country which has pushed the honest and transparent governance to the brink of disaster. The LGP said both civil and police services are caught in quagmire of the crisis of functioning with disappearance of integrity, devotion to duty, high ethical standards and political neutrality.
The spokesman of the LGP headed by former Secretary Government of India Vijay Shankar Pandey said here on Wednesday that devotion of the officers of the civil and police services to the ruling party and thriving nexus between corrupt politicians and officers has assumed menacing dimension indicating as if the police force has become private army of Netas. The spokesman said that statement of former director National Police Academy Sankar Sen “ the police functions as the police of ruling party, and not the people’s police. Upright officers with spine are asked to cool their heels in inconsequential postings……politicisation has snapped the chain of the command and control, corroded discipline and made the police leaders beholden to the politicians of the ruling party” has well summed up the prevailing despicable condition in the police force in the country. The spokesman said in view of the mess in the police it is hardly surprising that large number of officers have been facing corruption cases. The spokesman recalled that last year a senior UP IPS officer had written a letter to the chief minister Yogi Adityanath seeking post retirement political post in the government to serve the BJP.
The spokesman said recent infighting in the CBI and current drama unfolded in Kolkata between the CBI and West Bengal Government over Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar have badly exposed the shenanigan in the governance with political masters pushing the system to ruin to serve their vested interest. The spokesman said there has to be basic level of confidence between elected political leaders and top civil and police officers but the later are duty-bound not to cross the line explained in service rules. But the officers have now thrown these guidelines to the wind to become completely spineless to serve their masters, the spokesman said and added the police cannot be allowed to behave like private armies of the political class in the country. Laying stress on character and ethics among the officers, the spokesman said police reform is urgently needed to insulate the force from external pressure.
