New Delhi, January 04: The Lok Gathbandhan Party today expressed concern over clashes in Kerala on Sabarimala temple issue which has been politicised by some vested interest in the state. The LGP said at a time when the nation is passing through serious economic crisis ruling political class has been trying to distract the attention of the people by pushing religious agenda.

The spokesman of the party said here on Friday that there is need of calm for peaceful solution to the Sabrimala issue which has taken a piquant turn following the Supreme Court judgement allowing women/girls in their 40s to enter the temple. The spokesman said violent clashes and Kashmir-type statewide shutdown with stone-pelting in Kerala over the issue is matter of serious concern, which required to be resolved without further delay. The spokesman said politics needs to veer away from religious identity so that serious economic issues could be attended properly. The spokesman said when the economy is crying for attention ruling parties across the country are preoccupied with Sabarimala, Ayodhya, cow vigilantism and directionless issues to divert the attention of the people. The spokesman said political parties have been trying to push the country to election fever with prickly portents.

The spokesman said while NDA government has been trying to present a rosy picture of the economy, recent CMIE data indicated that investments have plunged to a 14-year low with steep fall across all major sectors. Pointing out that in just-concluded December quarter new private sector projects have fallen 64% compared to the previous year. The spokesman said long-awaited turnaround in private investments, necessary for “acche din” is thus far-fetched because the country is now entering into election mode leading to standstill situation on this front. Even as economy needs push both at the central and state level, the spokesman said there is dithering in the present dispensation causing anxiety among the people. The spokesman expressed concern that fiscal health of the nation is once again threatened by election fever accompanied by shrill divisive posturing around religious identity. The spokesman has thus called upon the people to be vigilant of machination of these political parties and extend support to LGP.
