New Delhi, August 24: Welcoming the statement of chief election commissioner Om Prakash Rawat’s that there is no possibility of simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state assemblies in the country, the Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) said today that much more pressing electoral issues are haunting the nation, which required to be solved in the larger interest of the vibrant democracy. The LGP said the BJP-sponsored debate on simultaneous election was in fact a diversionary tactics to divert the attention of the people from other poll issues.
The spokesman of the party said here on Friday that CEC has firmly ruled any such possibility in the absence of required legal and constitutional framework. The spokesman said the BJP had forwarded the reason that simultaneous poll would save time and expenses being incurred on frequent elections in the country but it was more a political gimmick to push other vital issues under the carpet. The spokesman said electoral reform is long overdue but more important than any other exercise is the complete ban on the political funding which has corrupted the whole political process in the country. But no party is ready to debate over it.
The spokesman said for ban on corporate funding political honesty and transparency is required, as circulation of huge black money in the politics has completely destroyed the electoral system but political parties have maintained stoic silence. The spokesman said corporate funding has corrupted the whole election process and made it expensive, which required national debate. The spokesman said the system introduced through electoral bonds will not serve the purpose and stop inflow of black money in politics.
The spokesman said that there are large numbers of complaints against various political parties for amassing huge donations. The spokesperson said political parties have unfortunately become one of the major conduits of money laundering for which strict legal action is urgently required to clean the system. The spokesman said corporate houses have evolved dubious means for money laundering and tax evasion in which large number of political parties are also playing significant role. The spokesman said with flow of massive black money in politics, the NDA government’s claim of electoral reform and fighting corruption is absolutely meaningless. The spokesman said the LGP, dedicated to honesty and transparency in public life, has been fighting for the eradication of the use of huge money in politics without which the concept of good governance is far-fetched.
